A genealogy of the family whose name seems to be one of territorial origin, meaning "Sheep Pasture", according to Black in his "Surnames of Scotland". The booklet details a legally conclusive line of descent which says that our Wotherspoons-Witherspoons were descended from John Knox, the Reformer.
Over the past 100 years there have been attempts made to prove that the Rev. John Witherspoon, signer of the Declaration of Independence (of the Haddington family), was descended from Knox- yet there still exists a missing link in that family line.

Revised edition of the 1958 publication.
Another publication from the Genealogical Treasures Collection of The Village Museum!
