The South is filled with stories of families who hid their silver from Yankees, never to retrieve it; of pirate ships, laden with treasure, sunk off the Atlantic coast; of hunters discovering gold. These stories may be true and have been collected for this book. There's the story of Tunnel Town, a stagecoach stop 20 or 30 miles north of Charleston. There a salon keeper and his wife robbed and killed unsuspecting travelers. The man and woman died without revealing where their loot was hidden and the cache still could be found. Another story relates the tale of a silver mine, worked by the Cherokee before they were driven off their land and resettled in Oklahoma. The exact location of the mine is not known but the search are would be two miles from Campobello off SC Highway 11. Grab a metal detector and start hunting.
