Published by the Williamsburgh Historical Sociey, this independent study of General Francis Marion, by William Boddie, wasn't published until after the author's death.
The Society realized, upon procuring the manuscript from the Boddie family, that it "was not a scholarly history, but that it had considerable merit as a set-piece of avocational historical writing.....with a charm, flow, and style of its own."
The Society published the work, with only light editing, finding it worthy of inclusion in the bidy of folk history and legend about this important historical figure.
