The history of the "South Carolina Society for promoting and improving Agriculture and other Rural Concerns."
Formed on August 24, 1785, the founding members included a signer of the Declaration of Independance, two United States Ministers (Great Britian and France), one United States Senator, four members of Congress, three judges (one of whom was the Chief Justice of the United States), four were Governors of South Carolina, and five were Revolutionary Officers. Without doubt, the Society was comprised of the most influential men of South Carolina.
